課程概述 |
課程簡介:
Traditional approaches to Ancient Greek Lyric poetry tend to define it as a genre in opposition to tragedy (poetry of social relations), and epic (poetry of cosmic relations). As such it is usually seen as poetry of the present, of personal feelings, likes and dislikes. No matter how true that might be for modern lyric, especially romantic, poetry, it is certainly not the case with Ancient Greek Lyric poetry. This course will utilize the results of modern research in Greek Lyric poetry to argue that it was as communal as tragedy and epic, differing from them not in character but in mode. It will also try to show how the proper appreciation of the position of that poetry within the society that produced it, heightens its aesthetic pleasure.
